DEVELOPMENT HIGHLIGHTS

Park Revitalization

Wallace Emerson Park will undergo an expansion from 6.58 acres to 7.81 acres. This new Park is imagined in three main character areas. The 'Nature Heart' is the easternmost portion, and will feature lawns and forested areas with meandering paths leading from Dufferin into the park. The 'Play Heart' in the middle portion will contain an artificial hill will flexible play space and a multi-purpose sports field with the potential for hosting events and performances. The 'Community Heart' is the westernmost part of the park adjacent to the community centre, and will contain a BMX/skateboard Park, a winter skating trail, and gathering spaces.

New Community Center

The Wallace Emerson Community Centre will be renewed and revitalized. A new Community Centre, double the size of the existing centre, will be built at the Dupont entrance of the site. The new 75,000 sq. ft. centre will boast a child care centre and will feature a colourful calendar of community events.

The community centre itself is designed by Perkins + Will and features a signature blue and green terracotta facade that sweeps along the curve of the diagonal street. The 3-storey building will contain a pool, gymnasium, fitness centre, indoor running track, childcare centre, and multi-purpose activity and community rooms.

Construction of the community centre will be completed before a single resident moves in and before the existing one is demolished.

Transit

An additional bus bay along Dufferin, plus internal streets designed to accommodate bus movements will improve and extend transit connectivity. Dufferin Street already has 24hr TTC Bus service with Express Routes and recent talk of a possible rapid-transit route.

A 12-minute walk to Lansdowne Subway station
